Humanities aim to enable all students to develop an awareness and understanding of the changing world and nations in which we live. We are particularly concerned with developing the geographical, historical, spiritual, economic, social, moral and political awareness of our students. These Strands, however, have their own skills, rigour, and knowledge base which are reflected in the establishment of discrete areas or subjects within Humanities. Humanities is taught in 3 lessons for Year 7 and over 4 lessons in Years 8 and 9, where 3 hours are given to History and Geography, and one hour to RE. Students follow separate History, Geography and RE courses taught by specialist staff. There are 3 or 4 topics for each subject covered over the year. In Key Stage 4 there will be 3 lessons per Humanities subject taught at GCSE. All 3 subjects will be taught by specialist teachers with experience of teaching at GCSE level. We also value the out-of-classroom experience, with many visits such as Italy, Bosworth Battlefield, Norfolk etc along with practical fieldwork in the local environment.
